What is the Time Commitment?
There are two different programs we offer below, the Juniors Club Program and the MVVC Club Program.
NEW! Juniors Club Program:
This year we will run a new 16-week program for 4th to 8th grade boys starting at the same time as our Fall Club Program, August 27th & 28th, and will end December 18th. This program is designed to make it more affordable and to get more boys playing at a younger age. The NCVA has lowered their pricing to help make it more affordable.
We will have volunteer coaches for each team with an experienced head coach leading the drills for the majority of the practices. This experienced head coach will guide and work with the volunteer coaches. Most of these teams formed, will play in a half day tournament every other weekend. If there are enough 4th and 5th graders to form multiple teams in the Bay Area then they will also play in these tournaments every other weekend. If not, we will mostly have 6th to 8th grade Juniors League teams with our younger 4th & 5th grade inter squad practice teams that will compete with in our program. After this 16 week fall season, we will have another opportunity for these boys to try out for a short 4 week season in the spring, starting late May and going until the end of June. If you are interested in being a volunteer coach, please email Brian Wahl.
Juniors Club Program - Tournament Schedule (2011):There will be about 2 practices a week with Sunday Tournaments most likely starting at 8am and ending by 1:30pm. This is a tentative schedule and there is a chance some of these could change to a Saturday Tournaments.

MVVC Club Program:Mountain View Volleyball Club is a fall and spring commitment program. The fall club season runs September to mid-January and the summer club season is May through the first week of July. We take a break during the high school volleyball season which is mid January to mid May. Then we continue with the same teams from the fall for the spring season. Before the spring season starts, we will have a 2nd try out to either add players to our existing teams or we will form new teams if there is enough interest. We have five age groups which we form teams. Those teams are our 14’s & under, 15’s, 16’s, 17’s & 18’s Teams. There are a total of 21 tournament days, 13 days in the fall and 8 during the spring/summer season. Three of the tournaments are “national qualifying tournaments”, where a team’s finish will determine whether they play in the open or club division for the Junior National Championships in July.

When are Try Outs?
Our main try out for our Club Program and our Juniors Club Program is usually the last weekend of August. For the 2011/2012 Season, this will be Saturday & Sunday, August 27th and 28th. We have a second try out, usually around mid to late May to fill open spots on our teams that need a few more players for the spring season. If we have enough boys interested, we will form other teams during those spring tryouts. If you are interested in receiving an email about our next tryout, make sure you enter your email in our email notification slot on the bottom left of our home page.
What if I miss a practice or tournament?
The club program is designed to be as competitive as possible and we ask that if you would like to participate that you make club volleyball a priority. You are a member of a team and it is important that every team member gives 100% on the practice court and at the tournaments. A team will do its best when all of its members are committed. With this in mind, we realize missing a practice for other activities, other sports or family vacations might occur. It is important that players and parents communicate this to our coaches and directors, so we can prepare the team to play its best even when a member is missing. Please allow sufficient notice if you are going to miss a practice or a tournament.
What is the financial commitment?
MVVC is dedicated in trying to make boys volleyball more affordable. For our one year Club Program with the cost of insurance, tournament fees, practice facilities, coaching fees, equipment, uniforms, and administrative fees, it will be $2800 for the 2011/2012 Season. These prices do not include travel, food or hotel costs if needed. The fall club season will cost roughly $2000 and the summer club season will cost approximately $800 for year round players. For players joining us only for the Spring Season to fill open spots on teams, it will cost $1200. MVVC is a fall and spring commitment program. For our 16 week Juniors Club Program it will cost $475.
MVVC does offer financial Aid. Thanks to the Mehring Scholarship Fund and other financial aid donors, partial scholarships may be available to those who qualify. Our goal is to try to make club volleyball more affordable for everyone. If interested in financial aid or donating to our financial aid program, please contact Brian Wahl at brianwahl@mvvclub.com.
How do I know if my son is old enough or good enough to play?
Most volleyball players in the area start playing club between the ages of 13 and 16 and continue playing through their senior year in high school. Some will start as early as 10depending on their athletic ability and the needs of a program. Our Juniors Club Program is designed to give more boys from a younger age the opportunity to be able to play. Very few players start club volleyball with very much experience. Other factors that may affect your decision include height, athleticism, and emotional maturity. Often parents want their children to play on teams with better, older players, but this could be detrimental to the kid. Our primary concern is putting kids in situations where they can have the best experience and learn the most.
Age Definitions for 2011-2012
18 and Under: Born between Sept. 1, 1993 and August 31, 1994
17 and Under: Born between Sept. 1, 1994 and August 31, 1995
16 and Under: Born between Sept. 1, 1995 and August 31, 1996
15 and Under: Born between Sept. 1, 1996 and August 31, 1997
14 and Under: Born between Sept. 1, 1997 and August 31, 1998
13 and Under: Born between Sept. 1, 1998 and August 31, 1999
Is playing time guaranteed for all players?
We run this club program, and form teams, anticipating that every player will contribute in playing time during tournaments. There is no guaranteed court time or equal playing time for any player. Some players will be put in positions to play all 6 rotations and others may only play 3 rotations. This is dependent on what is best for the team and is determined by the coach. With this in mind, if a player works hard and demonstrates in practice the ability to perform the skills necessary to play the game, he will be given the opportunity to play. Please remember athletes and their families are paying for instruction, not playing time. The vast majority of the instruction takes place at practice.
Why should my son play club?
Team sports are often vital to the development of a young person. We believe that by putting kids in a positive and competitive environment, where goals are discussed and achieved, that they can learn values that will help them in life. Club Volleyball emphasizes the values of teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, composure, self-discipline, and self-motivation.
